How Long Does It Take To Recover From A Filling?

This procedure can take as little as 10 minutes or up to an hour depending on the extent of the damage and the filling material you choose. If you choose the silver amalgam option, we ask that you hold off on chewing for at least 24 hours. The composite filling usually only needs about 2 hours of clearance time before chewing. The local anesthetic used should fade by about 3 hours post-procedure. You may experience some slight gum swelling or sensitivity to hot/cold substances. This is normal and should resolve itself within a week or so!
